Creating a truly inclusive workplace means recognising and supporting the different ways people think, process information and experience the world. As awareness of neurodiversity continues to grow, so too does the expectation on employers to provide meaningful, consistent support.

To help organisations better understand the current landscape and inform our guide, ‘Work that works for everyone: your guide to building a neuroinclusive workplace’, we conducted research in March 2026 with OnePoll, surveying 1,000 neurodivergent employees and 500 employers.

The findings highlight a clear gap between intent and action. While 60% of organisations say they plan to increase support for neurodivergent employees in the next 12 months, fewer than half (46%) currently have a formal policy, framework or written guidance in place.

Improving support starts with having that structure. Written guidance helps remove ambiguity, reduces disparities in access to support across teams, and clearly sets out your commitment to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.

Writing clear and compliant workplace policies can be challenging. Our comprehensive neurodiversity policy template is designed to save you time and ensure your policies are professional, consistent, and aligned with best practice.

Why every organisation needs a dedicated neurodiversity policy

Having a separate neurodiversity inclusion policy is essential for building an inclusive and supportive workplace. It outlines clear commitments to accommodating diverse needs, promotes understanding among colleagues, and fosters a culture of acceptance. It also supports compliance with equality legislation, helping to reduce the risk of discrimination while improving employee satisfaction and retention.

However, a workplace neurodiversity policy alone isn’t enough. For it to be truly effective, it must go beyond a document on paper and be embedded across the organisation. This means creating a culture where everyone - from leadership to individual team members - understands and applies its principles. Regular training, open communication and consistent reinforcement are key to ensuring it becomes part of everyday practice.

What’s included in our neurodiversity policy for employers?

Our neurodiversity workplace policy template includes clear sections that cover essential topics, such as:

  • Support available for neurodivergent individuals

  • Requesting reasonable adjustments - whatever your neurodivergence

  • Equal opportunities and diversity commitments

  • Remote working practices for those with neurodiverse needs

  • Data protection and confidentiality policies

This template is designed to be edited and tailored to your organisation. Simply add any missing information, link to your existing policies, include your company branding, and remove any sections that aren’t relevant.
